Regional Director

Greyston Center for Open Hiring in Rochester

Greyston is bringing the Open Hiring® Model to companies and communities throughout greater Rochester. Providing employment opportunity to those ready, willing and able to work is at the heart of Open Hiring®. Getting a job opportunity is a critical first step for an individual to change their life. However, maintaining that job is essential for someone to become a thriving individual, especially in Monroe County’s urban centers that struggle with unemployment rates that are well above the county, state and national averages.

Since 1982, Greyston has provided individuals in Southwest Yonkers, NY with employment, skills and resources to lift themselves out of poverty. Greyston’s internationally recognized world-class bakery provides jobs to individuals who are often excluded from the mainstream workforce, and our wrap-around community programs help individuals maintain employment and begin climbing the economic ladder. Rather than investing in the exclusion of applicants, Greyston invests in an inclusive model that ensures everyone willing to work has a fair chance to obtain and keep a job, regardless of their past.

Greyston is now expanding the model to Rochester in order to support Rochester residents who face barriers to employment. The Center for Open Hiring in Rochester will be home to an innovative business model where those who face barriers to employment can find job opportunities while accessing support services that will enable them to be successful on the job. The Center will work with Rochester area employers to adopt Open Hiring and then develop an employee support model in partnership with community resources. For more information, please visit Greyston’s website at greyston.org.
