Passionate about the package-free movement, food systems, and sustainability? Are you passionate about topics surrounding justice, equity, and education? Do you love social media & have a desire to use it to do good? Nada is looking for a digital superstar to join our team! This is a full-time communications role with a focus on social media platform management, content creation, campaign execution, and digital storytelling to build and manage Nada’s online and in-person communities. If you have a keen eye for detail and want to expand your knowledge into a hands-on marketing role with a focus on customer education, impact storytelling, and all things food systems, this job is for you!

About Us

Nada is a package-free grocery delivery service on a mission to connect people to just food – championing a community food system by linking buyers to suppliers and offering healthy, unpackaged products and services. Our vision is Healthy people = Healthy planet: where people link their food choices to the health of themselves and the environment. We’re a certified B-Corporation and 1% for the Planet company, meaning that we put both people and planet first, while donating 1% of all top-line revenues to grassroots environmental organizations that are tackling food security, food education, and conservation initiatives. Nada has hosted more than 175 community outreach events, diverted more than one million single-use containers from landfill, and is on track to become Canada’s first climate neutral grocery store by the end of 2021. Our food systems work has been featured in Forbes, the New York Times, and Wall Street Journal.

The Position & What We’re Looking For

This is an intermediate level role covering a broad set of responsibilities. You have experience with copywriting, content creation & management and social media strategy, and have a desire to put those skills to use & attempt to improve internal alignment and external engagement. You are detail-oriented, process-driven, and want to contribute to improving online engagement, customer service, and community growth. You are passionate about food systems and understand the need for equity, justice, and diverse representation amongst online channels. You also care deeply about food, community connection, and impact, and understand the responsibility as the Digital Community Lead to let that passion come through to our audiences. You recognize the power in communicating scientific information to general audiences, and posting accurately while using best practices.

Working at Nada is an opportunity to be immersed in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment and to learn from other social entrepreneurs, industry mentors and peers. In addition to content marketing responsibilities & working closely with the Marketing team, you’ll also be working closely with an experienced and well-connected leadership team. Given Nada’s current growth trajectory, this role has plenty of room for expanding in scope, with the potential of taking on more senior positions with time.

This is a full-time contract position until June 30th, 2021, with the opportunity to renew or move into a full-time salaried position. If you’re looking to play a key role in shaping the growth path of an innovative local food business, with a unique opportunity to get involved in many aspects of the business, let’s chat!

Scope of Work

The Digital Community Lead will perform a variety of marketing, content creation, and communications tasks including managing social media channels, executing strategic & complex content strategies, implementing digital campaigns, and managing Nada’s digital workshops and events. This is a role reporting directly to the Marketing Manager, with reporting and check-ins to company stakeholders. All Nada team members are expected to support our package-free goals and initiatives, and to provide exceptional customer service (or in the case of this role, partnership & online community management) by going above and beyond in all interactions. As Nada is a start-up, the successful candidate must be prepared to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment that is always changing; you can expect to get your hands dirty in a wide variety of tasks, while having the support to learn and participate in training activities as you go.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage, coordinate and execute purpose-driven social media marketing campaigns and calendars, from ideation to execution, to grow Nada’s audience both online and in-store and to drive traffic to our online store, retail store, and website
  • Translate company impact metrics and community stories into social media posts and newsletters
  • Write copy for all social media channels, blog posts, and newsletters
  • Development of social media toolkits to amplify marketing campaigns
  • Managing and providing strategic social media engagement and providing timely customer support for customers using social media platforms as a communication channel
  • Building social media campaigns for priority online events and workshops, in order to ensure we’re engaging pre, during, and post events
  • Identify social content collaboration and takeover opportunities with partners
  • Engage with existing online communities where our target audience is active, while working with the rest of the marketing team to grow our community base
  • Lead on measurement and delivery of all social media KPIs monthly, quarterly and annually to continuously refine the plan in order to deliver and exceed our goals

What a week in this role could look like:

  • Contacting 1% for the Planet partners for event ideation
  • Coordinating and facilitating online events, panel, or workshops with suppliers & community partners to support social media and blog posts
  • Building out content calendars for social media channels, producing copy & leading execution on social deliverables & KPIs
  • Building online relationships with brand advocates, partners and customers, while bringing Nada’s voice to all correspondence
  • Providing timely customer service and sales support for our operations team
  • Spending time identifying ways we can support & amplify suppliers & community partners, with a focus on topics surrounding food systems, circular economy, food equity & justice, and waste reduction
  • Identifying and being reactive to social media trends and opportunities - if you made a Bernie mittens meme you’re on the right track!

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum three years experience in communications, copywriting, or marketing
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Marketing or Communications, with a solid understanding of sustainability & food system issues, or relevant experience
  • Proven success in managing and social media platforms
  • Strong technical proficiency working in both Mac and PC environments, and expert skills using the latest software packages, including Adobe Creative Suite
  • Up-to-date on the latest standards, changes, and trends in copy, SEO, and visual design
  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized and work independently; ability to give and receive valuable design feedback
  • Exceptional communication and people skills; demonstrated ability to manage contractor, supplier, and customer relationships and obtain required information when necessary
  • Self-driven and motivated to take initiative, perform analyses, investigate, troubleshoot, solve problems and make improvements; team-player with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adaptability to a fast-paced environment is key
  • Fluent in Google suite, Excel, email etiquette and ability to learn new technical and digital programs quickly
  • Experience with Later, photography, creative cloud, an asset
