MedHaul is an early-stage, venture-backed startup where we are passionate about enhancing the quality of life for all. At MedHaul, we believe that everyone deserves safe, reliable, and efficient transportation to care, regardless of special, or unique, need. We’re building leading-edge mobility and data-driven technology to help healthcare providers find and book transportation for patients with special needs; such as wheelchair, stretcher, and/or door-through-door transport. We specifically target vulnerable communities, as we are passionate about bringing innovation to communities that are often overlooked.

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to provide sound technical leadership for our young startup and help us develop the best products and solutions for our users. This is a full-time role, with equity.

Only scalable solutions can help us democratize transportation at a pace of real impact to the over 200 million patients we target. As the technical leader, you are at the helm of building this technology-driven solution.

We’re looking for you if:

  • You’re a technologist at heart, with a strong focus on a results-oriented approach.
  • You believe in a people-first approach, and the projects follow.
  • You've managed remote teams, and you're comfortable with rolling up your sleeves in the trenches or speaking with executive leadership.
  • You have experience with mission-critical and time-sensitive projects.
  • You have experience communicating with employees, stakeholders, and customers to ensure the company’s technologies are designed, built, and deployed appropriately.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a diversely-skilled engineer, who enjoys working in teams, leading technical decision-making, finding and supporting talented and skilled engineers, and who is excited about what we are trying to do as a company.

Your role will be a mix of Technical guidance and decision-making, Hands-on development, and Team leadership and management. Here’s a bit of detail about each of those pieces:

  • Own overall technical planning, execution, and release of products, features, and projects
  • Monitor KPIs and tech budget to assess technology’s performance

Hands-on Development

  • Contribute quality code as full-stack engineer to develop existing and new products and features
  • Build quality assurance and data protection processes
  • Monitor and manage system infrastructure, including monitoring performance, scalability, and stability of the product(s)
  • Incorporate executive and stakeholder feedback into necessary technology improvements and adjustments

Team Leadership/Management

  • (At beginning) manage external development team, while leading and contributing to development; (later) manage internal development team, while still leading and contributing
  • Recruit, hire, and manage internal development team. Team size will be around 2+ direct reports
  • Maintain quality of team’s output, including code quality, staying in-line with delivery schedules, and team cohesion
  • Translate executive team needs and product needs into technical solutions
  • Explain tasks, goals, and set deadlines for the engineering team. Also be able to explain technical aspects to non-technical audiences straightforwardly and in plain language

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has the following skills:

  • 7+ years writing and shipping high quality code and products, and at least 1 year of lead/management experience
  • Meaningful experience at an early stage startup or in similar environment (e.g. greenfield project within a larger organization or scaling side projects/personal ventures)
  • Eager to roll up sleeves on wide range of work including designing infrastructure, experimenting with potential API integrations, implementing front-end designs, developing further mobile responsiveness
  • Experience in building scalable platforms
  • Experience in recruiting, evaluating, and hiring engineers
  • Experience working effectively with designers and product managers
  • Excited to deeply understand business needs and focused relentlessly on meeting them, within budget
  • Curious problem solver with leadership and organizational abilities; Strategic thinker
