ABOUT US

The Uncommon Goods Product Development team designs and develops unique and exclusive products. We are a team of 6 consisting of friendly, hard-working, big thinking designers and production managers who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit. We have a directory of external designers and manufacturers who we collaborate with to create and manufacturer new products. Additionally, we create highly personalized gifts for our customers offering them a unique shopping experience.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a designer to join our Product Development team, who is passionate about creating original and thoughtful products for the Uncommon Goods customer. With ambition to gain experience in creating a breadth of products across multiple categories. A keen problem solver with a can-do attitude. Designers who work with our team will be focused on generating new ideas, designing original products and collaborating with external designers on projects.

We are looking for applicants who are highly creative, a problem solver, energetic, and self-propelled.

The Designer reports directly to the Director of Design & Product Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Generate original product ideas that do not exist anywhere in the market. Create product that solves a problem and has an emotional connection.
  • Complete detailed technical briefs for all developments.
  • Present new ideas to Director, Product Development team and Merchants.
  • Manage relationships and ongoing projects with external designers.
  • Communicate regularly with Production and Merchant teams.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • 4+ years industry experience within a related field is required
  • Outstanding taste level and design experience in one or more of the following areas - home, accessories, gifting and jewelry.
  • Good technical knowledge of three-dimensional product design. Experience of applying surface art to product and/or packaging.
  • Self- starter with excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to respond to business objectives with creative and innovative design solutions
  • Excellent Computer Skills – Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) proficiency required.
  • Graphic design skills, surface art and typography skills would be an advantage.

Due to Covid-19 social distancing requirements, this position will be a combination of remote and on-site. A reliable home internet connection and appropriate equipment are required.
