Native’s team of strategists, project developers, environmental scientists, engineers and legal counsel are devoted to strengthening the people, companies, and places at the heart of these initiatives, and we are seeking a project development intern to join our team for the summer.

About the role
You will work closely with Native’s Project Development and Origination team to support current or potential projects related to soil organic and agroforestry for Native’s Nature Based Solutions portfolio. This paid internship is 30-40 hours per week for eight weeks.

What you’ll accomplish:

  • Complete data analysis for grower reports for a current cropping system soil organic carbon project
  • Support efforts to manage data and develop materials for project participants for soil organic carbon project
  • Complete literature reviews related to project design and development of agroforestry systems
  • Support research on agroforestry systems in different commodities and regions
  • Develop Excel based spreadsheets to quantify estimated sequestered tonnes per tree (or per hectare) for agroforestry projects in coffee and/or cocoa based on target third party methodologies and species for target regions
  • Research and identify partners related to agroforestry in target regions
  • Assess potential agroforestry projects and provide summaries and recommendations to project development team

What you bring:

  • Studies and/or experience related to ecology, environmental sciences, soil science, forestry, or land use
  • A proactive commitment to problem solving, taking initiative, and curiosity
  • An exacting attention to detail
  • Ability to work productively both in a team and autonomously
  • A process-oriented mindset, comfortable self-organizing to set and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
