$500 sign-on bonus per company policy is paid following 90 days employment.

Location: 1616 Eastlake Ave E Seattle, WA 98102

Rate of Pay: This position pays $17.19 per hour plus tips. Tips average $9-$11 an hour.

Schedule: Full-time, typically 5 days per week. Scheduling flexibility is required, including weekends and holidays.

The Assistant Café Manager 1 role is an integral part of the efficient, enthusiastic team that makes Grand Central Bakery’s vibrant cafes such wonderful spaces to be in. The Assistant Café Manager is passionate about serving delicious food and drink to a community of loyal customers. They support the Café Manager to coach and develop employees, as well as maintain awareness and expertise in all areas of the café. The Assistant Café Manager often leads in training and can be the PIC for all parts of the day.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • First and foremost the ability to deliver excellent customer service, including making and serving all sandwiches, coffee, and espresso drinks according to GCB specs
  • Proficient on Point of Sale systems and Vendor Ordering systems
  • Works in a way that maintains a clean cafe environment, including: bussing, washing dishes, and executing all necessary cafe cleaning tasks
  • Works in a way that can improve the cafe environment - takes initiative, contributes ideas, and is solutions oriented
  • Adheres to proper cash handling procedures and standards with a high level of accuracy
  • Acts as the Person In Charge in the manager's absence and as assigned
  • Maintains clear and frequent communication between the cafe team and other departments to convey new information, challenges, or ongoing needs
  • Assists in the employee life cycle in partnership with the Cafe Manager for all cafe staff, including hiring, training, coaching and performance management
  • Responsible for setting pars, ordering and invoicing, meeting cost goals, and checking inventory


Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required
  • Basic math skills required
  • Experience in food service and leadership required
  • Order and inventory management experience, including managing daily sales/pars as well as order systems
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products as well as Point of Sale and Food Service order entry systems
  • Maintains valid Food Handler's Card - new hires are expected to have a valid card by their first date of work


Physical Requirements

The Assistant Cafe Manager 1 is required to stand for up to 100% of the shift. The role necessitates working in a loud environment with frequent interruptions. This position may require lifting and carrying items up to 20 lbs. Procedures require a high-level of repetitive motion involving hands, wrists, arms and back.

This position works in a building containing a bakery and is constantly exposed to wheat flour dust and other grain dusts (rye, corn, oat).
