The vision behind Qomon is simple: People standing up for what they believe in deserve powerful & accessible tools to fight for their cause. Powerful technology as you can find in any other sectors like logistics or finance.

More than a company, they see themselves as a team that values action, brainpowers & empowerment.

If it sounds like you, it’s time to jump in!

----

Are you fascinated by applying Data-Science to the real world and noble purposes? Don’t wait, we have a challenging opportunity for you at Qomon!

We do believe it’s a one of its kind opportunity

  • You will be taking part in a growing startup (and B-Corp), human-sized, with a senior staff and supporting entrepreneurial mindsets. As a matter of fact, just like any team member, you will take part in the “100 jours”, our quarterly 2-days company-focused gathering where we share / learn / discuss roadmaps, practices, choices.
  • We are committed to a challenging, diverse and meaningful sector: citizen-driven organisations NGOs, movements, campaigns, etc. all over the world.
  • (big) Cherry on the cake, you will be with us at an exciting and rare time, during the French 2022 Presidential and Legislative elections! Just like with the 2021 French Regional elections (and others around the world) we expect the Qomon R&D team to be at the forefront of our actions.
  • Code & data quality / maintainability is highly valued, while keeping a startup / pragmatic spirit.
  • By the way, if this is a concern, we don’t do shady / micro personalized / micro targeted stuff with data; we actually mainly work with Open Data!

As a (full-stack) data-scientist intern, you may contribute to several areas

  • Applied research: work on unique geo-based datasets to help our clients and the public better understand the territories or develop specific algorithms / statistical pipelines (recommender systems, constraint optimisations, etc.). This research will most often apply to all our clients but we might do custom research for specific clients or Public Relations purposes.
  • Software engineering: Develop, test, improve our production pipelines, utils & APIs (REST web services to make our data & algorithms public).
  • Data engineering: with performance and data size considerations, automate data ingestion, data production, quality assurance.
  • Geo Data engineering: Create & update internal countries geo referencials.
  • Front-End development: improve our data-visualizations (mostly as maps for now) and the general User Experience on parts of the Qomon WebApp under the responsibility of the R&D team.
  • DevOps: work on CI/CD, monitoring, etc.

We obviously do not expect full proficiency over all those areas (awareness & curiosity will be valued).

Here is a bit of name dropping regarding our R&D stack: Python (and it’s scientific stack — Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-Learn, ...), Jupyter, PySpark, Sqlite + Spatialite, ElasticSearch, Apache Avro, Redis, Celery, Dagster, Docker, Kubernetes, QGIS, FastAPI, Flask, Vue.JS, Leaflet, Gitlab, Gitlab-CI.

In the end, our main focus is to deliver value & actionable insights to our clients. Those should resonate as “calls to action”. For this matter, we are working closely with the Product team to make our innovations accessible and usable by everyone.

We are looking for someone who wants to hone her/his data-science skills and who’s bringing a little something more (anything).
NB: as there will be an opportunity for a permanent position at the end we will favor candidates applying for an end-of-studies internship.

Preferred experience

  • You are currently completing a master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science, with notable success & happiness. You do enjoy Maths, Data Science, Computer Science (algorithms, data structures, etc.).
  • You are ready or close to be ready to write production code (no worries, you won’t be let loose, it’s still an internship) — preferably in Python and JavaScript.
  • Open-minded about and attracted by our view of full-stack data-science.
  • Willing to join the team in the beautiful city of Bordeaux.
  • (bonus) Interest in citizen-driven organisations.
