Description

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Founded in 2010, Sky’s the Limit Fund (STLF) is a Milpitas-based nonprofit organization whose mission is supporting youth/young adults in-crisis and their families in need through wilderness therapy programs and coaching services, as well as increasing awareness through community outreach. Our vision is for youth and young adults to achieve their full potential as healthy and valued members of society. They are faced with an epidemic that does not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion or socioeconomics. Wilderness therapy treatment programs provide effective and personalized therapeutic care, achieving high-impact and long-lasting improvement for these youth and young adults.

Wilderness therapy is expensive and cost prohibitive to low/moderate income families. Believing that cost should not be a barrier to anyone seeking wilderness therapy treatment for their child, STLF provides funds to offset this cost. STLF partners with wilderness therapy programs across the country who provide additional scholarships, further reducing the financial burden for the family. Following wilderness therapy treatment, STLF offers additional services to further support the youth, young adults and families in the transition.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

STLF is now seeking an experienced Executive Director (ED) to build upon its successes, help envision the future, and lead the organization through its next chapter. The new ED will report to a highly supportive and responsive Board of Directors that embraces growth and new ideas, and will lead a deeply experienced and cohesive staff. The ED will enter into a well-positioned organization -- strong operational footing, strong financial performance, strong growth potential, and poised to make much greater impact. What is needed is vision, growth-orientation, and strategic direction, coupled with hands-on leadership and a knack for deepening relationships. This individual will enjoy considerable space for creativity, both in terms of fundraising approaches and in creating programmatic changes and improvements. For the right person, the sky is truly the limit in what can be envisioned and achieved.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful operation, performance and growth of the STLF’s fundraising, programs and staff, as well as advocating for and advancing the organization’s mission. The Executive Director serves as an inspiring and engaging face of the organization and is responsible for monitoring and operating a current budget of approximately $1.5M.

Leadership & Management

  • Provide overall leadership of the organization, ensuring successful execution of the mission and thoughtful stewardship of financial and human capital.
  • Working closely with the Board and staff, develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns STLF’s core values, mission, vision, and long-term goals. Ensure STLF’s organizational design and staffing are appropriate to meet strategic goals.
  • In collaboration with the COO and program staff, establish an operational cadence to provide guidance, focus and clarity in support of daily operations. Includes innovative program design and delivery, fundraising and development, community relations and advocacy, financial management, staffing and general administration.
  • Set, measure and monitor individual and team performance goals that further the organization’s mission, impact and results; provide coaching and guidance for continuing staff growth and development.
  • Oversee systems in place to track and evaluate programs' success. Communicate programs’ progress to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Manage current budget of $1.5M; in collaboration with the COO, monitor accounting and financial records; ensure proper preparation of annual financial statements and tax returns.

Fundraising & Community Engagement

  • Lead and oversee the organization’s fundraising; design, develop and implement sustainable fundraising and donor relations plans.
  • Establish, build and maintain relationships with foundations, corporations, individuals and other funding sources. Particular emphasis for the ED is with HNWIs.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with leadership of existing partner programs; expand STLF reach by signing additional program partners nationwide.
  • Serve as the public face and champion of the organization to the community and the media; promote and support advocacy for wilderness therapy treatment.

Board Governance & Development

  • Update the Board on organizational metrics, successes and challenges while collaborating with Board committees to drive forward key objectives.
  • Serve as ex-officio of each committee, seek and build Board involvement with strategic direction and operational excellence.
