About the role
As Herb Sourcing Manager you’ll be responsible for the sourcing of herbal raw materials needed to supply Pukka’s growth, ensuring the optimal balance between our quality standards, sustainability and ethical values, within the right commercial framework.
You’ll develop strong relationships with new and existing suppliers to support the ever-increasing demand for herbal raw materials. With regular monthly travel to international suppliers, you’ll carry out visits to develop sustainability and agricultural projects, connect with farmers and growers in fields, assess the growing conditions and quality of crops, manage supplier performance and discover and nurture new suppliers. You’ll guide their adoption of our standards and values to become a Pukka partner and document sources and technical findings to maintain an extensive supplier portfolio.
You’ll drive improvement of Organic and Good Agricultural Collection Practices and lead the implementation for Fair Trade, Fair for Life and Fair Wild standards within our supplier base. To ensure a long-term supply of Pukka’s herbal raw materials, you’ll plan ahead and look forward to help ‘fuel’ our herbal product innovation. With your knowledge and close connections developed with your suppliers, you’ll anticipate, respond and resolve material shortages and surpluses with support of supply chain colleagues.
About you
Passionate about herbs, plants, and organic farming, you’ll have experience in a sourcing or buying role within the international food or herbal industry. You’ll have hands-on practical project management and field experience of organic plant cultivation / wild harvesting and drying techniques gained in an international setting. An understanding of quality systems including GACP, GMP and verification programmes, including organic, Fair Trade, Fair for Life and Fair Wild are essential.
You’ll be degree qualified with a BSc, MSc or equivalent knowledge of agronomy, horticulture or a related scientific discipline and have commercial experience of working alongside a supply chain and product development teams.
A dynamic approach to problem solving, you’ll enjoy working at pace and have track record of delivering results within a changing entrepreneurial environment. You’ll have a fantastic attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate resilience and determination, and have sensitivity of cultural differences. Highly numerical and analytical, you’ll be able to research market information and relate technical data to commercial outcomes.
You’ll be able to work in the UK permanently and have the ability and desire to travel internationally on a regular basis (around once a month). You’ll be looking for role that is both office based and field based, as well as having the opportunity to balance your commercial approach with your technical know-how.
