Founded in 1990, Appleseed Capital is a Chicago based firm that offers socially responsible wealth and investment management services. Our mission is to help clients develop and achieve their long-term financial goals. As the only investment advisor in Chicago that is also a B-Corp, we develop financial plans and investment strategies that align our clients’ portfolios with their deeply held social and environmental values. 

We are looking to add a Financial Planner to our team of investment professionals. We want to hire someone who is a natural at serving clients, has strong analytical capabilities, is an excellent verbal and written communicator, and is an independent thinker.   

The Role 

As our new financial planner, you’ll work closely with our experienced relationship managers until you’re ready to manage your own clients. You’ll prepare financial investment and retirement plans, conduct financial analysis, and produce written content to keep our client base informed on various personal finance topics. You will be an exceptional writer, one who can write compelling and insightful blog posts, white papers, and financial plans as needed. 

Your excellent communication skills will be crucial in this role, as you must be comfortable working closely with intelligent, capable, and financially successful clients and prospects. Over the long term, your ability to comfortably move through, and connect within, these social and professional circles will allow you to build your own network and, eventually, your own group of clients.    

Naturally, you are also highly curious, willing to raise ideas and questions, and eager to continually develop your investing and financial planning expertise. 

You’ll have plenty of opportunities for growth in this role as we’re looking for someone who wants to make a home with us and is driven to one day become a partner. 

Practically speaking, you will: 

  • Prepare financial and retirement plans, investment policy statements, and asset allocation analyses. Develop client and prospect presentations. 

  • Conduct research and write content to inform clients and prospects about wealth management, financial planning, market developments, and other related topics. 

  • Develop your professional network and seek new business for the firm. 

  • Coordinate and enhance the firm’s centers of influence and referral network. Act as a liaison to insurance providers, tax accountants, attorneys, and other wealth management professionals. 

  • Support the firm’s marketing, social media, and shareholder advocacy efforts as necessary. 

  • Enhance and design tools and capabilities that make the firm more effective in serving its clients.

This is a full-time, permanent position. 

We offer an attractive starting salary and commission package that will be commensurate with your experience. We also offer full benefits, incentives for new business, and vacation time.


  • Experience, or a strong interest in, taking on a wealth management or investment planning role. 

  • Strong quantitative analysis skill and an understanding of mathematical and financial concepts along with spreadsheet modelling experience. 

  • Writing experience that might include producing white papers, blog posts, or other documents. 

  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (advanced formatting, formulas, presentations, etc.) 

  • Strong ties to the Chicago area. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an associate degree with Bachelor in progress. 

  • Achieved, progressing toward, or interest in obtaining a CFP designation.
