GENERAL SUMMARY:



The Senior Paralegal shall be responsible for supporting the activities of the Laureate Global Online and US Campuses Legal Department, primarily related to federal, state and licensure compliance. Qualified individuals will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a corporate paralegal in a law firm, corporation or governmental department. Experience in higher education or another regulated business environment, a plus. The position will be based in Baltimore, Maryland.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Supporting federal, state, licensure and other compliance activities for the Laureate Global Online and US Campuses division.

  • Organizing and maintaining compliance calendars and documentation relating to Laureate Global Online and US Campuses’ compliance activities.

  • Managing complex compliance projects and objectives.

  • Drafting letters and memoranda.

  • Completing required governmental forms and filings.

  • Assisting with maintenance of legal and compliance database and supporting other compliance-related activities.

  • Supporting business transactions, including due diligence reviews, document requests, and governmental inquiries.

  • Processing and reporting on documentary items, including immigration matters.

  • Research, through use of legal and other research databases.

  • Maintaining legal/compliance files.

  • Cross-training with other legal support staff members to provide back-up support.

  • Other legal support functions as assigned.

  • High sensitivity to the confidential nature of the work.

  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines in a team environment.

  • High computer literacy including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel is required. Familiarity with PeopleSoft preferred.

  • Maintain flexibility in hours, including some hours outside the standard business hours.

  • Foreign language skills a plus


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:



  • Must have a minimum of 5 years corporate paralegal experience as a corporate paralegal in a law firm, corporation or governmental department.

  • BA/BS, Paralegal Certificate or relevant work experience preferred.

  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision balanced with the ability to work well in a professional team/corporate office environment.

  • Comfortable working with a diverse, international workforce.
