|Company Type:||Certified B Corporation|
|Impact Area:||Quality of Life|
|Company Name:|| Warby Parker|
|State / Province:||New York (NY)|
|City:||New York City|
Warby Parker is on the lookout for a Software Engineer to join our Systems Development team and be the point person for the platforms and tooling we use every day to support and accelerate our own engineering. If you're ready to push the stack forward while working on a close-knit and supportive team, keep reading!
Who we are:
The Warby Parker engineering team is as transparent and cooperative as they come, and everyone has a say and a stake in the work we take on. We seek out ideas from people all across the company, from our co-CEOs to brand-new hires, to understand what work really matters to the business and where we want to devote our time and energy. (You can read all about the process here.)
We value the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them, and are big believers in iterative, adaptive, all-hands-on-deck collaboration and continuous improvement. Our end goal is always to make the customer experience easier and happier. We know we're changing the eyewear industry (and retail in general), and we get really excited about it.
Who you are:
If our team sounds like the kind you'd thrive on, we'd love to hear from you. We're especially looking for software engineers with enough experience in different areas to have some well-formed opinions about how to get various kinds of code into production quickly and often, and how to build and manage the underlying systems that keep it running smoothly.
In terms of skills, you'll succeed here if you have spent some time working out what kinds of tools and processes support quality software engineering, done rapidly and sustainably.
You might have specific experience with technologies we're using right now—like AWS, PostgreSQL, Linux, Python 3, Git, TypeScript, Swift, or React—or with specific business systems like e-commerce, retail, ERP. None of that is required, but we'd like to know if you do! (Likewise if you’ve participated in open source development.)
What you'll do:
As a Software Engineer for our development platform, you'll experiment and explore new approaches to enhancing our engineering velocity and effectiveness. You'll continually refine our vision for the ideal development environment and process, and collaborate with your teammates to troubleshoot problems when we hit the inevitable bumps in the road. You'll help increase the portability of our core monolithic application while developing the platform that underlies its smaller sibling services. You'll team up with infrastructure engineers to improve our deployment process and ensure that our production systems grow in harmony with those in development.
Warby Parker was founded in 2010 with a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. By circumventing traditional channels and designing our frames in house, we’re able to offer insanely high-quality eyewear at decidedly non-insane prices (i.e., from $95 with prescription lenses—a fraction of the going price!).
In the last eight years, we’ve grown to over 60 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada, opened our first optical lab in upstate New York, and launched two of our own iOS apps. And for three years running, Fast Company has named us one of the world’s most innovative companies.
We also hold ourselves to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. This means lots of different things, like operating carbon-neutrally and distributing a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair we sell. (We’re big believers that businesses can scale and be profitable while doing good in the world.)
Of course, all work and no play makes an extremely dull office, and no one likes an extremely dull office. (We sure don’t.) As an employee at Warby Parker, you can look forward to company outings, guest speakers, volunteering opportunities, and other brain- (and/or taste-bud-) stimulating activities. It also doesn’t hurt that our team is just great company.
