People Ops Lead, HR Operations - Boulder

We're looking for a driven and results-oriented Global Employment Lead to join our growing People Operations team. Reporting to the VP of People Ops, the ideal candidate will proactively support our fast-paced, people-oriented culture at Techstars through the management of payroll, compensation, benefits, HR systems, HR compliance and reporting. The People Ops Lead, HR Operations will play an integral role in developing and implementing the HR infrastructure that drives our ability to attract and retain the best talent all over the globe.


We are looking for someone that has stellar interpersonal skills, that loves making data-driven decisions and enjoys digging into the details to build high-integrity processes. The ideal candidate is eager to build an employment infrastructure to support Techstars growth to the next level, and above all has a great sense of humor. (We try not to take ourselves too seriously)


What You’ll Do:

The The People Ops Lead, HR Operations will be responsible for the support and design of our compensation and benefits programs which includes the operational functions of HR, such as ensuring integrity of our HR operations and employment infrastructure globally. The responsibilities will also include oversight of compliance and policy management, immigration and employment vendor planning for scale. You will be a key point of contact for our talented team of 180+ employees in more than 16 countries globally and will work closely with our functional leaders and key employment vendor contacts.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders across all functions to maintain and develop processes around compensation, benefits and global employment infrastructure

  • Manage employment vendors and optimize processes and overall strategy for payroll, benefits and compensation in 16+ countries and growing

  • Partner with finance on building and maintaining high-integrity systems and processes for payroll, benefits, insurance and overall employment and tax compliance.

  • Ensure data integrity, testing of system changes, report writing and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities.

  • Be responsible for regular reviews, updates and filings to ensure our employment compliance in the US and internationally - working closely with the rest of the People Operations team to do so.

  • Partner with leadership to manage HR and Compensation policies, infrastructure, and processes to support the Techstars’ culture

  • Manage annual and semi-annual compensation review cycles as well as ensuring competitiveness in new markets as we continue to expand

  • Guide functional stakeholders on knowledge of employment practices in new markets

  • Up-level our ability to use data to make strategic decisions as a People Ops function.

  • Establish and/or strengthen relationships with key HR vendors to maximize value for the services they provide.

  • Have strong technical skills, enjoy spending time in excel and looking at new People Ops systems trends. You have a well-developed understanding of HR systems, including Payroll, Benefits, Compensation and HRIS (currently Google Apps, Namely and Payscale)

  • Really enjoy taking complex information and breaking it down into a format that a variety of stakeholders can quickly understand and work with to drive strategic decision-making

  • Have a practical and direct approach to problem solving and thrive in fast-paced environments, tempered by an appreciation of complexity and risk

  • Risk tolerant and comfortable trusting your instincts and making the best decision possible with the data available to you - knowing that there is always more to learn

  • Excel in demonstrating sound judgment when working through complex transactions, with the ability to analyze, problem solve and communicate observations and recommendations

  • Have developed strong expertise in HR, through a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. You may have an HR certification and ideally you have some experience working in a in a global organization and have some expertise in compensation, benefits design, employment compliance, HR systems and reporting

  • Good sense of humor, no job too small attitude, enjoy a bit of chaos and see opportunity in the ambiguity that comes with building process in a fast-paced global environment
