Accounting Intern, Nonprofit Management (Washington, DC)

The Managed Organizations team is looking for a driven and ambitious college candidate who is interested in learning about nonprofit management, Accounting and the world of Philanthropy to join our team during the fall of 2018. In this paid role, you will provide project and administrative support to Arabella staff in a fast-paced office environment. You will gain skills in nonprofit accounting. You will attend full onboarding training given to new Arabella staff members and learn about fiscal sponsorship and how it works from an organizational, legal, and accounting standpoint. You will have the opportunity add value to the team by researching and correcting discrepancies

Essential Responsibilities

Team Support (~80%)

Process inter- company and inter-project transfers.
Print and distribute check, EFT and wire requests by projects to Accounting Associates daily.
Enter Accounts Payable transactions in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains for payment.
Create and mail tax acknowledgement letters.
Review expense and credit card transactions through Expense reporting tool.
Scan payment documents.
Manage special projects, such as:
Document the processes and procedures of the Managed Organization Finance team.
Research all outstanding checks for Arabella Advisors’ Managed Organizations (New Venture Fund, Sixteen Thirty Fund, Hopewell, Windward and PostSecondary National Policy Institute).

Administrative Support backup (~20%)

Other administrative tasks as needed.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

Rising Junior, Senior or Graduate Student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or above in accounting at an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Interest in nonprofit management and accounting.
Nonprofit volunteer experience
Excellent attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organization and research skills
Ability to support projects and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Arabella Advisors provides operations and management support to multiple nonprofit organizations, including the New Venture Fund, the Windward Fund, and the Hopewell Fund—all 501(c)(3) public charities—and the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a 501(c)(4).These managed organizations house new and innovative public interest projects and nonprofits, as well as coordinate collaborative initiatives between donors and administer grants programs. This type of structure is commonly referred to as fiscal sponsorship, and candidates are highly encouraged to research fiscal sponsorship prior to a first interview.
