Job Title: Manager, East Coast Distribution Center

Reports To: Director of Customs & Trade, Dotted Line to Reno Distribution Director

Location: Wilkes-Barre, PA / (ECDC start up in May 2018), Travel to Ventura, CA / Reno, NV quarterly

General Summary:

Provides the day to day point of contact for coordination across Patagonia and DHL for the ECDC operation.  The ECDC Manager will support the DHL team to meet service, cost and quality goals while operating in a manner consistent with Patagonia’s cultural and environmental values.

Essential Job Functions:

Forecasting and Planning

    • Works with Patagonia internal functions (e.g. Finance, Planning, Dealer Services, Direct, etc.) to provide monthly and weekly unit forecasts by channel to support effective labor and capacity planning for the ECDC on a rolling basis. Forecasts provided to both DHL and operations forecasting function. Performs analysis to improve forecasting information and/or impacts on ECDC. Coordinates to contrast and compare with Reno ops forecasting and for network planning.   Proactively alerts DHL ECDC management of any upcoming promotions or other business changes to ensure operational impacts are effectively managed 
    • Raises visibility of capacity issues to Patagonia leadership and partners with DHL on their mitigation plans for resolution
    • Assists with ECDC budgeting process

Performance Management

    • Reviews ECDC performance/ DHL metrics and provides regular reporting and input to Patagonia operational reporting processes (including key insights on performance and key issues)
    • Tracks compliance of key metrics (e.g. inventory shrinkage) to DHL/ Patagonia contract and escalates deviations as appropriate
    • Ensures accurate and effective operational performance reporting is in place and provides regular summaries to Patagonia leadership. Provide KPI and other measurements from DHL/ECDC to Patagonia reporting functions. Analyze KPI’s and costs for reporting and benchmarking with global in-house and 3PL operations 

Communications and Customer Service

    • Coordinates priorities across channels and customers with DHL Operations
    • Ensures specific requirements for key wholesale accounts, Patagonia stores and Direct customers (including VAS for wholesale) are communicated
    • Ensures the Patagonia Customer Service team has needed information and visibility 
    • Assists in resolution of key customer service issues as appropriate
    • Point person for Patagonia Stores at the ECDC to provide information or resolve key issues
    • Provides a conduit for communications between Patagonia Leadership and the DHL ECDC Management

Operations

    • Coordinate start-up/ ramp-up activities between Patagonia and DHL. Perform testing and analysis in conjunction w/DHL implementation team and D365 team to ensure accurate implementation. 
    • Partner with Planning, Logistics and Reno/ Verdi teams on transfers of inventory from Reno for start-up and ongoing inventory balancing
    • Works with the DHL team on a day to day basis to help resolve any customer service or other key issues
    • Manages any inbound QA issues which come up 
    • Support the DHL procurement team in the acquisition of any Patagonia specific supplies (tbd)
    • Attends weekly DHL GM staff meetings and reports back any key messages to the Patagonia team
    • Work with the Reno team to identify, evaluate and optimize outbound transportation service and costs

Strategic Initiatives/ Projects

    • Coordinate through major and minor systems updates
    • Support implementation of wholesale ASAP and pre-season channels
    • Partner with DHL to support process and productivity improvements
    • Point person for other Patagonia initiatives (e.g. Packing Optimization)
    • Coordinates visits/ tours of the ECDC for Patagonia Leadership and/ or key Customers
    • Evolves and elevates position requirements as additional functions moved to ECDC and function matures. Take on more projects and network coordination.

Cultural/ Environmental

    • Acts as a resource to the DHL team in operating the ECDC in a manner consistent with Patagonia’s cultural and environmental values
    • Coordinates with DHL HR and Environmental / Social Coordinator 

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in DC environment including operations management, forecasting and analysis
  • Proficiency in the use of PC and MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of Patagonia systems and Manhattan WMS
  • Able to work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to remain flexible to change within the work environment and scope of responsibility
  • Results orientated - demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of Patagonia’s organization, communication processes and culture
  • Knowledgeable about principles and processes for providing excellent customer service
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Experience with DC labor planning and capacity management
  • Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering Degree a plus
  • Exposure to other 3PL and/ or Patagonia similar omni-channel distribution operations
