Regional Sales Manager

Position Title: Regional Sales Manager

Job Overview


As the Regional Sales Manager, you are responsible for the overall achievement of group room nights and resort revenue goals in assigned markets in addition to achieving overall sales team and company financial objectives and targets. You will generate business from market segments in the following assigned territories: select national industry segments, across all segments in Colorado and Arizona (i.e. Corporate, Leisure Groups, Wholesale, Travel Trade/Tour Operators, etc.), and manage all in-bound leads. You will also develop sales strategies, manage the life-cycle of the client, and create meaningful ski/travel industry relationships.

The primary objective is to maximize revenue generation and market penetration. This includes, but not limited to the nurturing of existing quality accounts and assigned feeder markets, developing known high potential markets and the identification of emerging sources of business. This position serves as a Taos product expert to the meetings industry and also responsible for serving as a positive and knowledgeable advocate of the resort. The position requires a thorough understanding of direct sales, account management, and the distribution channels related to group room sales. Must be able to multi-task, problem solve, manage administrative expectations and be flexible and adaptable to differing situations. Due to the high-level of interaction, excellent interpersonal skills are a must.

Essential Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Ensure resort attains and grows regional group revenue goals and overall Taos fiscal year objectives while increasing awareness of resort and The Blake in key markets

  • Accountability for achieving group room night and revenue goals for assigned markets/segments

  • Strong focus on prospecting for new business and tracking new accounts in assigned markets

  • Develop and maintain customer base in assigned market; accountable for booking new and existing group business

  • Collect market and competitive intelligence to assess and implement strategy and long term goals

  • Ensure the achievement of regional sales goals on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis

  • Keep accurate records of potential customers & follow through on all potential business

Sales Process

  • Conduct personalized sales campaigns within designated territory to promote the resort and hotel programs, packages and special promotions

  • Quote and negotiate prices within established parameters

  • Utilize available systems to track, solicit, book and follow up accounts

  • Manage client experience from contracting phase thru post-event milestones in a timely manner including cross/up selling groups, personally managing FAM tours, site visits, resolving issues with group packages, pre-arrival arrangements, group meet & greets, post-event accounting needs, surveys and future business requests

  • Maximize Resort and The Blake exposure through integrated programming during event

  • Ensure a quality client experience from prospecting phase thru post-event follow-ups

  • Upon closing, work closely with Catering and The Blake Guest Services to ensure all details of the contract were delivered and guests depart satisfied

Industry Relations

  • Actively participate in key trade & business associations to generate business leads and increase resort and hotel visibility

  • Participate in tradeshows, conventions and promotional events within the hotel and trade related organizations in target markets and segments

  • Establish and maintain active working partnerships with key travel partners

  • Initiate and implement sales promotional programs with travel partners


  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as required

  • Follow departmental policies and procedures

  • Follow all safety policies

  • Other duties as assigned

  • College degree in business administration, hotel management, or related discipline preferred

  • 1+ years of hospitality sales or related experience, ski resort experience a plus

  • Proficient in MS Office, technical and managerial applications hotel and ski industry PMS/POS, account and yield management, Salesforce, CRM and other related PC applications

  • Budgeting, P&L, and business planning experience, preferred

  • Proficient skiing/snowboarding ability preferred

  • Able to create, implement and analyze manual and automated reports

  • Operational knowledge of group sales process

  • Sales personality with a professional, positive and team focused approach to goal

  • Familiar with legal and contractual agreements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Position is located on property with up to 50% travel to key markets, events and market/client visits


1 to 2 years related experience with a proven track record of success. Prior experience selling a world-class resort or boutique hotel property is preferred, and experience in a property with a dominant group business mix is highly desirable. Customer service experience in a high-volume environment is necessary for success in this role, with the ability to problem solve, identify and find solutions. A strong financial competency is highly desired.

Work Environment:

Office environment while at the resort and traveling for client visits, industry/trade shows, etc.
