Classification: Full-Time Seasonal
Schedule: Full Time – 4-5 days a week (potentially more during work pushes). May be required to be on a stand-by status during periods of high fire danger and during special events being held at TSV.

Job Summary: The Sawyers & Trail Crew will work under the direction of the Crew Boss &the Trails Manager. The primary duties are maintaining or improving existing ski trails, roads and infrastructure. The Trail Crew often assists other Mountain Operations Crews.
Essential Job Functions and skills :
Excellent physical fitness. Candidates will be required to complete USFS S-130/190 Wild Land Fire Certification and pass “Pack Test” (3 Mile course carrying 45 lbs. in 40 minutes) to obtain USFS “Red Card” certification. Able to travel on foot over rough mountainous terrain while carrying heavy loads. This includes tools, supplies and personal gear in excess of 50lbs.
Candidates will be required to be active members of VTSV Volunteer Fire Department and will train weekly with members of team.
Able to prioritize work and work without constant supervision.
Able to take direction and comprehend complex task instruction and follow through to completion.
Perform erosion management and re-vegetation work with hand tools and other equipment.
Driving off road and on the highway. May involve the use of loaded trailers.
Expert use of a chain saw and tree felling techniques. USFS S-212 required for Sawyers
Heavy equipment operation. Basic driving skills on both established roadways and steep mountain terrain. Basic materials hauling and excavation skill.
Solid understanding of locations in Taos Ski Valley and surrounding terrain.
Be capable of performing technical rescues and lift evacuations. This includes climbing lift towers and belaying lift passengers to the ground.
Be capable of performing a backcountry rescue. This includes transporting injured individuals overland on a backboard or litter.
Comfortable working outside in a high-altitude environment during inclement weather.
Required to have necessary equipment for working in this environment; Back pack capable of carrying 45# load, appropriate clothing and footwear for work environments (10” leather work boots (not steel toe), synthetic layer clothing, rain gear) Employer will provide appropriate PPE for position.
Able to work well with fellow employees, other departments and supervisors.

-Walking uphill at high altitude in mountainous terrain
Work Environment: The job requires working outdoors in a high alpine environment. Altitude ranges from 9000 to 13000 feet. Extreme weather and temperature ranges are encountered. Steep and rugged terrain are normal.
