NewSchool of Architecture and Design seeks qualified instructors to serve as faculty in the Domus Academy School of Design at NSAD, specifically teaching online courses in Design Thinking commencing in the month of August 2017. Appointments will be part-time and will be made on a term-by-term basis. Courses are typically 4 credits. The primary responsibility will be online classroom instruction / student assessment in the core subject area of Design Thinking.Course topics include:
•Examining and applying design thinking concepts, principles, methods and tools.
•Using the design thinking process and tools to create a prototype of a product or service.
•Using graphical tools, including storyboarding and customer journey maps, to define design problems.
•Applying the design thinking process to real-world situations in a variety of contexts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Faculty must be comfortable teaching and interacting with students on the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) as well as HTML based social platforms.
•Faculty must be comfortable communicating in English (written and spoken) to an international, diverse, and multicultural student body.
•Faculty are required to successfully participate in and complete required training and development prior to course assignment.
•Faculty promote and facilitate student success by creating an active and collaborative online educational environment conducive to student involvement.
•Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Although faculty members may facilitate discussion by posting at any time of day, their contributions must be posted in a timely manner.
•Faculty Members are expected log into the classroom a minimum of 5 days per week and responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours.
•Faculty Members are required to provide feedback and assign grades to students through Blackboard.
•Faculty members will publish their availability to students through course announcements in the Blackboard classroom. The university suggests regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or regular online chats.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required (Master's or terminal degree preferred) or equivalent work experience in the fields of
oDesign Strategy / Design Management
oProduct Design / Industrial Design
oBusiness Administration (MBA degree)
oOther related disciplines within Design / Business
•Experience working with students online in a distance-learning environment strongly preferred.
•Minimum of 2 years teaching experience at the college level.
•Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience.
•Evidence of consistent and effective teaching with continuing pedagogical improvements.
•Portfolio of creative, research, professional, school service, and/or community work that demonstrates professional and intellectual achievements.
Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle a web-based electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through NSAD. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.
