Description

Major League Hacking (MLH) is looking for someone to join our growing family and New York City office as our Logistics Manager.

Every year, MLH helps hundreds of community leaders around the world organize events for technologists and innovators. Our full-time team provides everything these local event organizers need from the first day of planning through the successful end of the event. As our Logistics Manager, you’ll be responsible for getting our staff and resources to all of these events and rolling out new initiatives as they come up.

This is a great role for someone with operations or project management experience who enjoys working in changing large systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee our event operations & inventory. Each event we facilitate requires fulfillment by our operations team.  This can involve sending staff, shipping inventory by freight, and booking vendors.  You and your team will need to keep track of all this across 200+ events each year.
  • Plan, manage, and implement projects. You’ll be responsible for translating new business initiatives into action.  This will involve working across multiple internal teams and interfacing with our clients and vendors.  You’ll keep track of all the deadlines and deliverables and make sure our team hits them.
  • Manage operations team. You’ll oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of the other members of the operations team, including providing feedback on their work and distributing tasks.
  • Review, modify, and develop processes. In order to serve so many events, the operations team is necessarily process driven. You’ll analyze these processes, make changes, and develop new ones as necessary.
  • Establish, monitor, and analyze metrics. Due to the scale of MLH’s operations, you must be able to take measure of the operations’ teams actions. This includes forecasting and managing inventory, setting budgets, and reviewing performance.
  • Manage vendor relationships. We rely heavily on vendors to help augment our small team.  You’ll be responsible for sourcing vendors, overseeing their work, and maintaining the relationship over time.
  • Support business operations. The operations team ensures that MLH has what it needs to function as an organization and is responsible for management of MLH’s facilities and various duties arising therein.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar operations or project management role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Process driven and detail oriented personality
  • Exceptional organizational ability
  • Ability to set timelines and ensure others uphold deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to thoughtfully and critically evaluate project requirements
  • Availability to work weekends, extended hours and travel as necessary

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Stock options
  • Medical, dental, vision benefits and 401K
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Weekly team lunches
  • Travel opportunities

About MLH

Major League Hacking's (MLH) mission is to empower hackers. Each year over 65,000 young technologists and innovators around the world attend MLH events and join our community. Our events provide a self-driven environment where community members learn from each other outside the confines of traditional academia. The MLH team grew out of this movement and is dedicated to making it accessible to the entire world.

  • We’re a team of 12 people based in midtown Manhattan.
  • Our co-founders, Swift and Jon, were recognized for their work in education by Forbes in the 2017 30 Under 30 list.
  • We work with some of the top technology brands like Dell, Oculus, and Amazon to help them reach our community and get the latest and greatest tools into their hands.
  • We have a group of world-class investors including General Catalyst, Alexis Ohanian (Reddit), Jeff Lawson (Twilio), and Sundance DiGiovanni (Major League Gaming).
  • We are a mission driven B Corp, committed to responsibly serving the world and our community.
  • The hacker movement is taking off! Since we started in 2013, we’ve powered nearly 450 weekend-long invention marathons (called hackathons). About 50% of those happened in 2016 alone.
