The Culinary Art Instructor will serve as a teacher and role model teaching key skills and inspiring participants to cook gourmet meals that, through their hard work, will help open the door to a fulfilling and exciting career.

The Chef Instructor will also be responsible for coordinating food preparation for catering orders and special events that highlight the skills and knowledge of the students. Facilitate class discussions on cooking and food safety and allowing participants to brainstorm how they might put new behaviors into action, discuss barriers for adopting new behaviors, and share ideas with their peers for overcoming barriers.

This rewarding contract opportunity requires someone who is friendly, flexible and works well with a diverse group of people.

The position being offered is for one (1) training session lasting ten (10) weeks this Fall.


Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Follow and enhance our Introduction to Culinary Arts course curriculum, prepare syllabus and lesson plans for classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate teaching techniques and evaluate student progress in attaining goals and objectives of each lesson.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current safety/culinary procedures in the field.
  • Demonstrate the ability to order products within a strict budget and maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Participation in the screening of potential students, the enhancement of training curriculum, classroom and kitchen instruction
  • ServSafe training and online exam proctoring
  • Schedule guest lecturers and field trips.

Contract Position: Culinary Arts Instructor (10 WEEK PERIOD starting in September)

  • Previous Experience as a Culinary Arts Instructor a MUST
  • Location: 21 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703
  • Department: Workforce Development
  • Compensation: Approximately $30.00 an hour; no benefits
  • Schedule: Monday - Thursday 9am to 2pm

Qualifications:

  • Culinary Arts classroom instruction experience a MUST*
  • Professional Culinary Arts degree or certification from an accredited college or institute
  • ServSafe Manager Qualification
  • ServSafe Instructor and Proctor certification a PLUS

Minimum Qualifications: (candidates must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered)

  • Employed in field for four out of the last seven years
  • Ability to relate to, teach and coach a diverse adult population
