GENERAL SUMMARY
Gain practical research experience as part of a three-member qualitative research team for a study on the experiences of Walden Asian and Latino/a On-line Doctoral Students. The Research Assistant position is open to MPH students currently enrolled in good standing in the College of Health Sciences at Walden University. This study does not involve a health-related topic; however, this position will provide practical research experience and skills development that are applicable for cross discipline research. The Research Assistant will gain valuable experience in general qualitative research methods and research administration working closely with the research team. This virtual position requires 1 to 2 hours per week (4 – 8 hours per month for one year beginning Summer 2018. This is a paid position with a small monthly stipend.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role, the Research Assistant will:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and research team with administrative and research related tasks.

  • Take notes at monthly online research team meetings.

  • Assist research team members with organizing and maintaining qualitative data.

  • Interact with research team members during the data analysis process by attending optional data analysis meetings.

  • Generate basic descriptive statistical data reports using SPSS.

  • Conduct literature searches using the Walden Library resources as needed.



Commit approximately 4 hours per month (1 hour per week) to this role.


TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, and PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Interest in learning about and applying qualitative research skills.
Ability to run basic descriptive statistical reports in SPSS.
Familiarity with the NVivo qualitative research software program.
Excellent English writing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word
Ability to work in a team and independently as needed.

Communication skills including clear, grammatically correct, professional writing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must be a current student enrolled in good standing in the MPH academic program in the College of Health Sciences at Walden University with a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Knowledge of Walden resources (e.g., Library, Writing Center, Center for Research Quality, Student Support, and/or other centers) required.

Must demonstrate that she/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
