This position is ideally located in our Portland, OR office. Consideration will be given to highly qualified candidates near our office locations in Seattle, WA or San Francisco, CA.


You will serve as the Senior Associate supporting 3Degrees’ Utility Partnership’s business, reporting to the Vice President of Utility Partnerships. In this role, you will be an independent contributor leading and implementing client engagement initiatives and quickly building the skills to be a subject matter expert on the design and implementation of green-pricing, community solar, green tariffs, and carbon offset programs offered by utilities. Client engagement activities support utilities that are working to design, implement, and sell the programs listed above; doing so will require leveraging the expertise throughout 3Degrees ranging from REC markets to carbon markets to subscription modeling to residential marketing and sales and many others. Your responsibilities will regularly include the following:

Scope & deliver on work

  • Write scopes of work that address client needs, anticipate project risks, and clearly define appropriate deliverables

  • Manage work efforts to contract specifications

  • Develop quality work products and documentation

  • Manage subcontractors and coordinate work with internal subject matter experts

Client management

  • Ensure that utility client expectations are both managed and met, become a trusted advisor, and seek renewal and expansion opportunities

  • Bring or develop and understanding of utilities broadly to most successfully guide and support them

Develop subject matter expertise

  • Develop & deliver subject matter expertise specific to utility renewable energy program design, strategy and other related programs

  • Project manage and oversee work specific to the marketing or implementation of programs

  • Leverage 3Degrees’ Excel-based subscription models to accurately forecast program participation and create optimized paths to achieving participation targets

  • Create and help optimize program pricing

Support for the business

  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing, documenting case studies, and participating in client presentations

  • Create and maintain forums for capturing and sharing lessons learned during consulting engagements throughout the department

  • Forecast business needs and price service offerings


  • Five or more years’ relevant experience, ideally in some combination of renewable energy, program design or implementation, and/or external consulting

  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, written, verbal, and presentation/public speaking abilities

  • Demonstrated capacity for collaborative teamwork

  • High level of attention to detail, organization, and time management

  • Excellent project management skills across multiple projects at a time

  • Ability to lead any project from inception to successful completion, using innovative thinking and internal resources to find solutions where there is no existing precedent.

  • Expertise in and/or willingness to develop expertise in renewable energy, carbon offsets, and renewable natural gas, rate design, utility program marketing, subscription models, and both commercial and residential customer segments

  • Experience with MS Excel preferred
