Description
The School of Health Sciences at Walden University has 1 Graduate Assistant position available within the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. If you are a current PhD in Public Health or DrPH Walden student who loves helping others succeed and you have an excellent background in epidemiology, this is the perfect position for you. This is a virtual position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain at least two separate office hours per week for students via the internet with a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) to best serve the needs of the global student body.

  • Monitor University e-mail account and respond to questions from students in the course within 24-48 hours.

  • Assist in facilitating course discussions in your assigned classroom a minimum of 4 separate days per week.

  • Develop or revise supplemental course materials as needed and determined by the course Lead Faculty.


  • Be available for department or team meetings.


  • Plan to commit approximately 40 hours per month (10 hours per week) to this role.

  • Additional duties will be assigned as needed.



TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, and PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong academic background in health-related field

  • Superb writing, time management, problem solving, and communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience directing academic learning (preferred)


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a current PhD or DrPH Walden University student.

  • Must have earned an “A” in epidemiology related courses or otherwise be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic epidemiological concepts and calculations

  • The successful candidate must have an overall GPA of 3.75 or better on all Walden University coursework completed.

  • 3+ years’ experience working in a health science related field (preferred).

  • Demonstrate performance of the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Superb knowledge of APA and scholarly writing.

  • Experience teaching or tutoring in online learning management systems (preferred).

  • Knowledgeable of University resources, including but not limited to the Writing Center, Center for Academic Excellence, Library, Career Services, Center for Student Success, and Academic Advising.

  • Ability to adapt to all levels of learners, and approach students with different learning strategies to help them develop their academic skills.
