About DoneGood

We started DoneGood because we believe that the dollars we all spend are the world’s most powerful force for change. Americans gave $390 billion to charity last year—but we spent $130 trillion buying stuff. If even a fraction of that spending could also help reduce poverty, fight climate change, and otherwise make the world better, the impact would be enormous!

DoneGood (www.donegood.co) makes it quick, easy, and affordable to use your purchasing power for good every time you shop online. With over 100,000 users and hundreds of ethical and sustainable partner brands, DoneGood has helped conscious consumers divert hundreds of thousands of dollars to companies that do good.

Our DoneGood browser plugin automatically recommends socially and environmentally responsible alternatives as you shop on Amazon, Google, or big-name retailers’ sites. The DoneGood Shop and mobile app for iPhone and Android make it easy to shop—and save on—hundreds of DoneGood-approved brands.

DoneGood is a Certified B Corporation “Best for the World” Honoree and Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), so our values are baked into our company’s DNA. We are a growing startup that has quickly generated praise from users, partner brands and organizations, and national media outlets like Forbes, Mashable, WIRED, and many others.

About the Position

DoneGood’s VP of E-commerce Engineering is someone with significant engineering experience for e-commerce companies. This person will work closely with our heads of Marketing, Technology, Data, and Partnerships to define, plan, and build improvements in our platform that delight our community of users and partner brands. Combining market research, product design, and full-stack engineering, this role will challenge this person to create user journeys that are simple, human-centered, and forward-thinking.

This entrepreneurial-minded person will also be critical in discussions related to the overall strategy, vision, and direction of DoneGood moving forward.

If you’re creative, passionate, and purpose-driven, and you care about creating positive social change, this is a job you’ll love a lot!

Job Description:

Help lead the vision, planning, coding, and testing of DoneGood’s products, including:

  • Contributing to all levels of engineering, including back-end technologies to front-end web interfaces.
  • Acquiring quantitative and qualitative data through user research, market/competitive analyses, and experimentation (e.g., A/B testing, survey data, usability studies) to inform product decisions.
  • Applying user-centered design principles to maximize UX and product usability—from personas and user flows to wireframes and prototyping—in a way that marries DoneGood’s style and branding with our information architecture.
  • Helping to develop an agile, iterative product roadmap that leverages sales funnel mechanisms to increase LTV/revenue, while closely tracking data and analytics against our KPIs to understand how products are performing and the most strategic product improvements to make.

Ideal Candidates:

  • You are a full stack software engineer with experience in e-commerce/consumer tech companies.
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Can build reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Can optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • You can seamlessly balance business needs and strategy with product requirements.
  • You’re a natural collaborator that loves combining experiments and analytics to make smart decisions (even when limited data exists).
  • You’re curious and aren’t afraid to try new things and sometimes fail (’cause startups are the ultimate petri dish).
  • You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality and are willing to work with code you did not originally write.
  • You are a patient, thoughtful leader who is comfortable navigating the ambiguity of a growing startup.
  • You care about the world you live in and want to work to make it better

Work Conditions:

  • Highly purpose-driven team.
  • On-the-job fun; it’s a startup, it should be fun.
  • Flexibility; it’s a startup and we’re a small team—this means schedules can be very flexible! It also means that sometimes we have to move quickly to address emergencies whenever they may occur. We try to take care of each other and make sure we all have a healthy work/life balance.
  • An inclusive, collaborative and welcoming work environment.
  • Off-site work at events/potential short travel stints when necessary.

Bonus Qualifications:

If the job description and work environment sound exciting, and you see yourself reflected in the "ideal candidates section" listed above, we strongly encourage you to apply and talk with us.

The following are bonuses:

  • You’ve helped scale a double-sided e-commerce platform previously.
  • Back-end and front-end development experience with the following: NodeJS, MongoDB, database queries, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Python, machine learning, data processing pipelines, API design and development, webpack, and the React framework.
  • Experience with integrated user authentication/profile management, a shopping cart, incentive/loyalty programs, personal product recommendations, and/or inventory management with third-party platforms.
  • You have experience/familiarity with social enterprises (having worked for one or for an organization that promotes them, or you’ve blogged about them, shopped with them, or what have you)
  • You’ve spent time working to create the change you believe in—whether as a paid staffer or volunteer for an NGO, community organization, campus organization, political campaign, church group, workers’ rights group, organization supporting underrepresented communities, etc.
  • You have a college degree.

Interest in applying? Please email your resume and cover letter to team@donegood.co.

Salary and equity offering are commensurate with experience. All full-time employees are offered health care and other benefits.
