Summary

Provide the business and technical leadership necessary to maintain a safe, secure, efficient, high-quality, and impactful operation. Lead, motivate, develop, and retain operations team members, encouraging high performance results alongside personal growth. Ensure that facility and day-to-day
operations conform to QEHS (Quality, Environment, Health and Safety) management system requirements. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning efforts. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs), driving continual improvement in operational productivity, efficiency, and profitability.

Responsibilities

Operations Team Leadership

● Lead team of 20+ operations team members.
● Directly manage Division Managers (ITAD and Recycling), as well as Logistics Coordinator and drivers, providing general work direction, performance feedback, and coaching.
● Oversee cross-training and allocation of shared staff between divisions.
● Help promote company culture by encouraging teamwork and communication, inspiring excellent performance, and maintaining high employee engagement and morale.
● Identify staffing gaps and propose solutions, including internal promotion, external hire, and/or placements through workforce development partners and temporary staffing agencies.

Operational Planning and Oversight

● Plan and monitor the day-to-day company operations, ensuring that goals for safety, security, efficiency, and quality are achieved, and that external requirements (customer specifications, regulatory requirements, voluntary certifications, etc.) are met.
● Ensure that day-to-day operations, documentation, policies, and procedures match QEHS management system requirements.
● Implement effective structure and work rhythms that can accomodate high variability.
● Lead efforts to formulate, implement, and revise operational processes, policies, and procedures.

● Solve and prevent future occurrence of issues by identifying and resolving root causes of problems.

● Work with COO to set and prioritize short-term objectives and long-term goals consistent with company’s strategic direction, identifying growth opportunities and challenges.

● Support COO in annual budget preparation and in the ongoing forecasting and administration of departmental expenses and revenue.
● Develop, refine, and monitor operational KPIs and metrics, reporting on these regularly.
● Drive continual improvement in labor efficiency.
● Analyze and utilize operational and financial data to grow revenue, reduce costs, and improve profitability.
● Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement equipment, software, and systems to improve operations (including ERP systems).

Facilities and Logistics Management

● Oversee one or more facilities that adhere to all company QEHS standards, including compliance with all applicable regulations and conformance with all voluntary certifications.
● Ensure facility security (interior and exterior), including cameras, access controls, etc.
● Maximize facility utilization, balancing competing needs of divisions.
● Oversee maintenance of facility systems (e.g., HVAC) and equipment (e.g., hard drive shredder).
● Manage fleet of owned and leased vehicles: overseeing vehicle operations training, establishing and enforcing guidelines for vehicle operations, and ensuring proper maintenance.

Vendor Management and Procurement

● Act as a representative for company in working with vendors and outside partners.
● Oversee relationships and agreements with approved downstream vendors, supporting annual and ongoing due diligence and audit processes.
● Optimize allocated budget for material, supply, and tool purchases.

Additional

● Work with Division Managers or others scope unusual projects or client requirements.
● Provide coverage for Division Managers, when absent, directing their teams and setting daily priorities and targets as needed.
● Be available on short notice to open, close or check on facility.
● Be willing to be certified/trained to operate forklift or drive box truck as a worst-case backup.
● Other projects and activities as assigned.

Other Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in operations management, industrial engineering, business administration, or related field. Master’s degree or professional certification a plus.
● 5+ years proven work experience as operations manager in IT asset disposition, electronics recycling, reverse logistics, or related fields.

Additional Position Information

● Classification: Exempt, according to FLSA guidelines.
● Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Work environment is noisy and industrial (technical repair, recycling, warehouse). Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of computers and phones is required.
● Work Schedule: With the exception of the travel listed below, this role requires an on-site presence Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5:30pm.
● Other: This position includes routine travel within the Los Angeles metro area. Periodic evening or weekend availability, including occasional out-of-state travel, may be necessary.
