Vice President of Marketing and Ecommerce Job Description

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The VP of Marketing and Ecommerce is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the marketing and ecommerce functions. This strategic executive leadership role is accountable for stewarding, guiding and strengthening brand presence and consumer engagement across an evolving market landscape.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides leadership and strategic direction to the development and implementation of marketing plans and processes, identifying and addressing gaps and opportunities and ensuring precise execution, while maintaining brand integrity and strength.
• Collaborates with the VP of Sales to ensure that appropriate insight from the sales function is integrated into marketing tactics and sales channel strategic planning, and that goals and priorities are aligned.
• Develop, lead, and ensure execution of e-commerce strategy, sales channels, and digital platforms.
• In collaboration with VP of Sales, develop omni-channel sales strategy (including MAP policy/enforcement) and ensure that strategy and tactics create top and bottom line growth while growing our brand value
• Build and maintain relationships with media, influencers, and stakeholders through creative communications strategies including effective PR
• Prepare regular reports and presentations on marketing metrics and ecommerce sales for the CEO
• Working with Director of Product Strategy, develop product portfolio recommendations, to include 3 year innovation pipeline, assortment optimization, and ongoing lifecycle analysis for product catalog.
• Oversee the development and reporting for voice of the customer monthly meetings
• Accountable for the culture, performance and results of the marketing and digital team, ensuring delivery of high quality output, on time and on budget, and assuring that all company and brand standards and expectations are delivered.
• Provides clear direction on marketing priorities and resource allocation to meet department and company objectives, ensuring resources are aligned with overall strategic plan for organizational health and growth.
• Develop ROI-centric field & event omni-channel marketing strategy, balancing brand leadership/presence with resources, and ensuring Gaia brand reaches & converts new consumers through marketing tactics
• Ensures all marketing/digital staff is well versed on DSHEA and other regulatory guidelines that govern product and brand compliance, partnering with QA team to steward Gaia’s adherence to regulatory guidelines as a quality standard-bearer and leader.
• Collaborates at the executive level to assure that departmental KPIs and goals align with other departments, and are congruent with company goals.
• Partners with appropriate outside resources to develop and maintain consumer snapshot, allowing Gaia to be market and consumer driven in packaging and brand visual, new product launches, communication and direction.
• Develops the annual marketing & ecommerce budget, based on the approved strategic plan; monitors monthly financial reports.
• Identifies and cultivates strategic brand partnerships and collaborations that enhance the Gaia brand and reach.
• Embrace a service mentality to the Sales team to foster alignment and partnership with the VP Sales through open communication and a shared vision of success
• Establish and maintain an evolving 3 year strategic plan for D2C, with big picture goals for top & bottom line
• Obtain insights into customer experiences across channels by surveying stakeholders and analyzing what works and what needs improvement
• Co-leads demand side of the S & Op forecasting process, with sales leadership as partner
• Ensure the use of market analytics, forecast planning and leading edge consumer insights to influence and drive incremental growth, as well as be responsive to the ever-changing business and consumer needs
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Directly manages the Director of Product Strategy, Director of Digital & Ecommerce, and Director of Brand Experience.
• Oversees the entire Marketing, and Ecommerce/Digital team

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
• B.S. or M.S. degree in Marketing or Business; MBA or other deeper marketing experience preferred.
• Minimum of 15 years marketing experience, with at least 5 at the executive management level.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience working in the Natural Products market space.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• High level of emotional intelligence, and the ability to adapt to different styles
• Proven team building and leadership experience.
• Proven ability to manage and implement marketing systems and process to optimize efficiency and strong ROI.
• Strong analytical, planning, forecasting and financial skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates with focused intention.
• Strong customer service mindset.
• Ability to manage multiple complex priorities within demanding timeframes.
• Proven ability to lead a proactive organization and ensure accountability for results that maximize contribution to business objectives.
• Ability to convert strategic planning into tactical execution
• Prior experience in most of the following areas: web merchandising, digital marketing and analytics, CRM, e-commerce order fulfillment, distribution/shipping, payment gateways, relevant legal issues (e.g., intellectual property)
• Proven success in managing creative teams and meeting deadlines
• Ability to handle a wide variety of responsibilities and changing priorities while remaining flexible and approachable
• Excellent organizational and project-management skills; ability to guide projects from conception to fruition
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee in this position primarily works in an office environment, but may infrequently pass through a manufacturing plant, where they would be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise. Periodic travel is required about 15% of the time.
