As the Helpdesk Team Lead/Systems Administrator you’ll be responsible for T3 ticket escalations, process improvement, monitoring IT systems and mentoring team members. In addition, this role will also support Windows Active Directory, account management for cloud services, data center operations, and basic troubleshooting for networks, backups, and virtualization technologies. We are looking for someone to help us grow and that will grow with us, that is motivated to learn, thoughtful and courteous, and driven to always improve.

About the Role

As the Helpdesk Team Lead/Systems Administrator you’ll work alongside team members every day to address our customer’s current technology needs and lead the team to develop new solutions for our customer's future. You will inspire and develop your team to follow repeatable processes as well as expand timely execution of internal and customer facing projects to reduce capacity demands. You will also have the opportunity to learn from everyone at Varsity, from our CEO and management team, and the Services Operations staff. Varsity is, and always has been, a place where you get to learn, you’re actively supported, and you’ll be part of a community.

This position is located in Modesto, CA.

If you have a passion for our mission but don't have all the skills or experience you think is needed for this role, don't worry, please still consider applying. At Varsity you will have many opportunities to learn new technologies and develop new technical skills.

You’re Excited About this Role Because:

  • You’re able to keep the bigger picture in mind while never losing track of the details, and you’re skilled at prioritization, able to pull yourself and others out of the sand when feeling stuck. In this role you’ll monitor networks for alarms or certain conditions that may require special attention to avoid impact on the network’s performance. You’ll be the point person for tier 3 support for Service Desk escalations.
  • You’re the first one to recommend, develop, and design implementation processes for improvements to ensure system performance, availability and clear guidelines for team members.
  • You care about the work you do and always eager to learn (and teach) new things. You want to be supported in your efforts to develop and maintain in-depth working knowledge of customer products and services to enhance your teams’ ability to troubleshoot, create/update policies or procedures and own their work.
  • You will get to work in an organization that has an entire culture around Agile with complete buy-in from management.

We’re Excited About You Because:

  • You’re a skilled Helpdesk and Systems Administrator looking to lead and inspire a team to achieve great work.
  • You’re a natural collaborator, team builder, and highly professional, able to interact with folks across the organization both internally and in client settings.
  • You operate with the utmost integrity and servant-leader mentality.
  • Your systems experience includes the following: MS Active Directory, Exchange 2010/2013, SQL databases, VMware/vCenter, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, group policy management.
  • Your networking experience includes the following: Meraki, Cisco, firewall (FortiGate and CiscoASA), Citrix NetScaler, TCP/IP protocol, IP addressing, VPN, networking design, SSL certificates.
  • You’re experienced in public/private cloud technologies like Office 365, Google apps, etc.
  • You’re able to configure and maintain firewalls, switches, wireless access points, physical servers, storage systems (RAID, iSCSI, etc.), UPS.
  • You’re experienced with backup solutions and methodology (local and offsite replication).
  • You have experience configuring and supporting client operating systems Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.
  • You’re experienced with iOS and Android (mobile devices and tablets).
  • You may have a Bachelor's degree, cloud migration experience, and/or Linux administration and that would be a plus, but if not, you’re able to demonstrate an eagerness for learning, growth and success, as an IT professional.
